I'm a long time user of DD, for years, version The platform I use it on is a windows7 OS, 64bit, patched. I upgraded to version in Jul18, no problem. Have recently used it to recover during a hard drive replacement 6days ago , worked fine. Today check 9 Feb noted a new download available - upgrade 2.

Downloaded it, read the release notes, which said to un-install existing version: did that, removed OK. Installing the upgrade: inserted keys OK, then during the install got an install fail message screenshot attached. After OK, escaped, re-boot, tried again, same result: twice in succession.

Ok, escape, re-boot, cclean system including registry, re-install the version. So, now my PC doesn't have a licensed version of DD12 installed, because an upgrade process failed. How do I get DD12 back? But there are 16 of those installed, various years and versions. Clearly, not one of those. However, it seems likely that the uninstall process recommended in the release notes removed whatever support the installer needed for the next step.

Does Acronis need to adapt it's installer and advice too? I've found forum discussions that deal with a similar issue, where users posted about succeeding in resolving the issue.

Thanks for the detailed response. Summarising, one of those was successful. I'll take each item in your reply in turn. The 1st link also dealt with upgrade to version whereas i was upgrading from v So - for the moment - ignored those pending review of the 3rd link. And that worked, no error messages: DD12 v operable from the desktop again.

For the moment, I'll live with this older version until I've recovered from the anxiety attack. There are now 17 of them, and I've red-boxed the one which has today's date on it. It hasn't got the same name as the one I installed, but there was only one installed on this date. There are mixed messages - consistent, but mixed - about Acronis product upgrade processes: with True Image, installing an upgrade or new version on top of the older one is not only possible but seems to be the preferred method, and it works fine.

The advice for Disk Director is contradictory: article says uninstall an older version before installing DD12, but the later article says DD12 will automatically uninstall DD10 or DD So, I last used DD12v a week before the post: initialise a new drive, create volume etc, and it worked fine.

Then I reviewed the DD12 product advisory, noted the upgrade and downloaded it. I checked the release notes for the DD12 upgrade 2 item that was displayed in my product list: it said un-install old one first, which is what I did: v now gone.

That was detailed in the first post on this issue. Given what happened next:. I suggest therefore that the installation of software like DD12 from any source - download file or disk - should check for essential components, and install them if they are not already on the PC. Clearly the download install file of DD12v did not do that. Authored on. Order Asc Desc. Date within - Any - 1 day 3 days 1 week 2 weeks 1 month 2 months 6 months 1 year. Disk Director 12 upgrade and reversion install failure.
